And what would you call copying and pasting a post that's on forums all over the place? Spamming?

I guess this explains why I got what I thought was a pretty rude email from a hairstyles forum I joined yesterday to post a question about my hair on. I was a bit taken a back as it was a genuine question, but when I went thorugh the registration process there was an option to enter your website url, so I put hairstylezone in the website field, there were no links in the post, just in the profile where there was the option to put, so I did, and a bit later received the following email...

Thanks for your interest in somecheekyrudewebsite.com We have posted your question - however we have removed your links back to your own ‘2009 hairstyles’ website.

Everyday we have posts from people who are trying to improve their google rankings by getting linked to from our forums.

As a commercial business who has worked hard to build our own site’s reputation/PR this is unacceptable.

Our forum is for consumers with genuine hair questions, who we try to help. If you want to participate on this level, we welcome you… if however you’re just looking for a PR boost to your own website we’ll have to remove you.

Unfortunately Chandrika, forums, and blogs for that matter, are rampant with posts simply for the sake of links. How aggressive they are in dealing with it varies from forum to forum.

The name of the post is black hat explained. Yet the poster failed to explain anything.

Lots of people want to run around talking about black this and white that yet have no idea what they're talking about most of the time.

Hee Hee Janeth, good to see you here after a long time. Was away from WPW, just came back today

Recently one of our friend has recruited an in-house SEO (Web marketing) genius, so they arranged a conference with me. He was very cynical, he said to me, "so you in SEO for 5 to 6 years, so you must be knowing about white hat and black hat SEO right?"..

I was so surprised that most of the people are still stick with white and black. Now when people are moving beyond search engines, one need to think of better web marketing ways.

Btw now most of the good forums/blogs/wikis are nofollow, so no link benefits .

Couldn't Black Hat SEO be used to de-rank a competitor. For example, if someone is ranked above you for a search term; couldn't you just use black hat SEO to pump their site and then get them downgraded on the search engines?

I just wonder what stops people form doing something like this to remove those above them in the results. I would fear a competitor doing this to me and my 76+ number one rankeings for Sacramento web related results.

Google says anything you do to your website for the search engines is black hat.

I have to wonder what the heck the white hats are doing?

You have to wonder how strict the guidelines really are on the black hat and white hat SEO. I have seen websites that use nothing but black hat who still carry top ranking in their search results. Where I have seen people who do nothing but try to build quality back links go unchanged as well.

I think Google, Yahoo, and the others want us to think they are more on top of things than they really are.
