Wink Add on domains, shared server, .htaccess and traffic etc.

1. Introduction

I have three hosters with different solutions. On my relatively expensive, I have a unigue IP for two .no sites. This post is not about them. In addition I have a

2. Shared server solution.

Add on domains on my .htaccess Ip blocked extranet http://www.forumnorway.com/

Example of how that is configured:
  • One add on site DinNettAvis, norske og utenlandske nyheter døgnet rundt Ip block on main domain deleted by allowing all Ip's in local .htaccess. That implies that the Ip block on the main domain is overwritten.
  • Server configuration: FTP host - dinnettavis.forumnorway.com Own FTP password.
3. A differently shared server solution.

Main domain: Kjell Bleivik4. Questions.
  1. How bad are these configurations for
    - traffic
    - Ad Sense Ad's
  2. Do you see any penalties related to the configuration?

Hi,

Configuration 3 is okay. FTP access has no influence on anything. Regarding site visitors, SEO and AdSense, everything is fine, if you make sure that any hit on www.kjellbleivik.com/subfolder/ are automatically redirected (301 redirect) to www.digitalstart.net/.

Configuration 2 is okay too. If a site is not publically available, it will not come up in search engines and I guess that there are no AdSense ads on this site anyway. Use the 301 redirect as explained above if there is any chance to access the pages of the add-on domain through the main domain.

No reason to get penalized for these configurations. Why would you be penalized for not being evil ? I use similar configurations for years.

Jean-Luc

Silence is sometimes Golden, but not always. I understand that there is silence in this

Now I need your help.

related thread, but not in this, since I doubt that there are nobody with other experiences or explanations.

Today, I experienced something new on two of the sites on the same shared Ip, namely:
  • On one domain, first a JavaScript driven affiliate banner had the traditional broken banner link icon. After a while the link disappeared completely and I replaced the code with alternative ad's. I seldom wait and see if the banner come back.
  • The funny thing was however that the same banner link functioned perfectly on another add on domain on the same Ip.
The reason can of cause be that the banners were not showed at the exact same time, but decreased that possibility when I saw that the banner link disappeared completely. I figured out the following possibilities:
  1. Something takes place on the shared server.
  2. There is a man in the middle.
I doubt that the problem is on the client, that is on my web browser.
