Hi
What i have built is that using RSS technology i can track more than 28 forum, blog, website, social media websites, etc in one go and this also includes google alerts. And all this using the keywords that define your product [Keyword 1, Keyword 2] etc. So now you dont need to wait for google to alert you but if someone adds a blog entry somewhere in any google blog or technorati or digg etc, you know immediately. Hope this helps. |

I think the real question is after you use Google Alerts and find a post or comment about your or your site, what do you do.
Some people ignore the posts because you tend to spur on more comments if you fight the bloggers or whomever made the comments. Others, will aggressively argue and defend themselves and will spend hours and brainpower doing it. We see a lot of posts about us and I make a judgment call after looking into the traffic of the blog/site, the amount of people posting or ganging up and then if the posted comments are lies or do they have legitimate complaints (we aren't perfect so sometimes they are legitimate). When I post, I only post once, I refute the comments, post to links to information about us that is positive and I make sure everything is very well worded and very concise. What does tend to happen at that point, if it is a busy blog or forum, is that defenders of us start to come out of the proverbial woodwork. You will lose every time you get into an argument with a forum or blog ... every time. I defend us but I do it very carefully. You need to make the call how you want to handle it. Arthur |

Good advice from Arthur.
Also, when correcting misinformation at a blog or forum, it's best not to direct the correction at anyone in particular because that usually excites someone's ego and encourages a battle. It's better to direct the correction to people in general. For example, instead of: "No, you are incorrect about our website, we actually...." It's better to write something like: "What we would like people to know is that our website is actually a...." --E. |

Are you getting complaints? Bill Gates once said, "Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning." I think that is very true. If people are complaining, I think you should listen to them and see if you can do something better.

Oscar Wilde " There is only one thing worse than being talked about........not being talked about!"
I agree with comments about forums and blogs. Especially Sportsfan's and ArthurNYC. You will never win as the forum members will often gang up! I run a forum from my web site and am ever vigilent that member comments are accurate and objective. It is not always easy especially when comments and information presented as fact is infact not true, or comments are directed personally. The strange thing is that knowledge put into public domain is fickle, a few months down the road they may remember your name or web site but not in what context. Never, ever, go head to head on a forum. You will loose. Back in august a new member to this forum posted a request, I followed his link to his web site and was staggered to learn he had claimed to have built my web site. I have sat on my hands over the matter ever since then on this board, and sitting on my hands does not come easy! Err.........I did take action on a more local level. Silly boy. Personally I ignore any negative comments, not that I have had many in the last 3 years. People tend to find out eventually and then it is the person who initiated those comments and inacuracies who looks stupid. My would be web designer has effectively killed his business here locally, people just laugh at him now and whistle the theme tune to the muppets as he goes by. /Astro

Another way to combat bad publictity or comments is to make sure there are also a number of good comments. If possible, have testimonials from satisfied clients and encourage them to post their remarks. Your best advertisers are often your most satisfied clients.

Just two quick suggestions to add to the mix:
Technorati - type in your brand name and see what's being said in posts across many different sites. I know it was mentioned about RSS feeds -- great idea. Another method is the second suggestion : If you notice certain pages appearing on the front page that mention your site (the first page is what you should be most concerned about if someone google's your brand name), use a monitor tool that will automatically inform you of any changes made to that site's page. Such as, if there may be follow-ups after your rebuttal to a negative post or claim. There are paid and free services that do this for you. monitor web site changes - Google Search Good luck!
