Default Site map for sub-domains?

Question of what is better, or what's right or wrong...

Should we add a sitemap to the main domain, with the sub domain urls listed within? Or have 2 separate sitemaps for each the main domain and the sub domain?

Example:

A: Have a sitemap.txt located in mydomain.com that lists the URLs in mydomain.com and staff.mydomain.com

OR

B: Have a sitemap.txt located in both mydomain.com and staff.mydomain.com, each listing the URLs within that directory.

Any feedback appreciated!

It would be better to submit a sitemap for individually for each sub-domain too ....

Say example write a sitemap

staff.xml for staff.mydomain.com

people.xml for people.mydomain.com

and finally sitemap.xml for mydomain.com

It depends..

If you feel that you really need a sitemap, I think that most sites don't need them, then you should go all the way..

If you have signed up for Google webmaster tools then you should register each subdomain on it's own and verify each subdomain.. They can all be under one account.. This will help you with link tracking and some of the other tools that wmt offers.. You can then create a sitemap for each subdomain and point them out in wmt as well..

Each subdomain would be, and should be, treated as it's own site as far as Google wmt is concerned.. This may add some more work to your plate depending on how you generate your sitemap.xml files, but in the long run it might be worth it..

There will be better if you assign separate sitemap for each sub domain

Thanks

since I use sitemap generators that have limited pages, I create sitemaps for all of the subdomains of the site. though even if I would get a sitemap for the whole site, I will still create one for my sub domains for I promote and optimize them as individual sites.
