Default Does File Size Affect SERPs?

How the site size has impact on SERPS?

Earlier I used to have the index file sized at 24.7KB and the whole site measeured at 718KB including images

But after redesigning the site the file size of index is 49KB and the whole site is measured at 4.95MB including the images.

How would this size increase effect my SERPs.

According to Google's Webmaster Chat from October 22, 2008, site size has impact on SERPS. Following is the Q&A of what you should know

Question: Does a page load time play a crucial role in Google Page Ranking? If yes how important is it?

Google’s Answer: I think the more important issue here is user experience. If your site loads fast, your users will be happy; if it loads slow, users will be less happy. Make your users happy, right?

it may also affect your sites bounce rate and lessen the number of returning visitors. sites with huge file size and lots of images has the tendency to be slow and users likes it best if the site is fast

Yes, it matters, and specially as mentioned above, access time. The bot won't bother waiting too long with each page.

Recommended size? mmm.... I read about some magic tips and it was very funny. Keep it under 40k if you can. Review, and if you can, keep it under 30. Review, if you can, keep it under 20 and so on...

There is another way to do it: strip down your pages into several. Meaning: one article in 3 pages. I don't like this but it sure creates "more page content" and strips down the size of each page.
