Default Google teaches the basics of SEO

It wasn't that long ago that Google warned to be careful using SEO services in its webmaster guidelines. Then a few months ago they updated their position to a more positive one. Now they are offering SEO basics here.

Absolutely! We understand the game... That's why they called it SEO for beginners.

But it does not look like it is a Cross-SE guide.

It should have been called "Googles Guide to Page Layout"
It was definitely a beginners guide to something.

Well, it might be good to put things in perspective here. Until only very recently, Google's webmaster guidelines did not of anything good to say about the SEO crowd. In fact all things SEO have been handled by the anti spam department. So this guide represents a 180 for Google concerning SEO.

I went through this guide from Google which tells us some basics about seo. I don't see anything new in this book as all of content that is available in the small guide is already available on internet in some form. So there is nothing new in this guide for seo community

You are right, there is nothing new about this guide, however it's existence has a deep impact on the world of SEO.
First off, it says nothing about links, because Google is (and should, i guess) trying to keep links sacred...
However, this means two things:
One: Google now officially recognizes SEO, and not only that, but CONFIRMS what seo experts have worked hard to determine, i.e. URL structure, title tags, header tags, relevancy are all critical in allowing correct spidering/indexing.
Two: It now gives official credance to SEO's who explain their methods. Before this, there was no way of knowing if an seo was speaking truth or fallacy, and if you worked as an in house SEO for a large company, sometimes this barrier is the hardest to break (i.e. decision makers will not focus on seo when determining a project, and much work must be done after the fact to optimize). Now there is an official document by Google explaining the basics of seo, not just a bunch of internet guys with their websites doing who knows what. This could be an incredible help to those inhouse seos without cooperative decision makers.

So no, this document will not teach you anything new, but it has its own importance on the world of seo, and will be the birth of more documents like this one... I'm calling it now, this will not be the last SEO document google releases.

Thanks, very well said...

I believe it will really help a lot of small business owners who have wanted to implement SEO but would not take the risk on the words of an SEO specialist. It will also help the DIY crowd who was having a hard time deciding who to trust on matters concerning SEO.

It will also clear things up on forums. We can respond to lame statements by referring them to this document and not just pointing them to blog posts on the subject.

A big win for all.

Actually, the newness is not in the content of the guide. What is new is Google now is supporting SEO as a viable option for website owners. In the past they have warned about using SEO. So this is a huge change.

Great tips, although these are for newbies. however, experts can also consider these as their second lesson.

The importance, for so that already understand and implement SEO, is minimal. However, it does offer legitimacy to the process for the buying consumer. It removes the mystery.

That would destroy any advantage that they might have. But it would make a nice Christmas present.

Your welcome... I think its a way big deal for a lot of people who come to forums looking for answers. I have always deferred to Google on these things. Now, when a question comes up about SEO, I use this guide.
