Default A Complicated Question - Atleast for me!

Hello everybody,

My client had a website xyz.com which just got redesigned and is getting decent amount of rankings and search traffic. Here is the question:

- My client wants to transfer all the xyz.com files on an another site's (123.com) sub folder but keeping the same domain name. Would that be an SEO blunder?

The Google webmaster tool doesn't verify the files as verification file does not reside on the root. It says this:

We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.

Can anybody elaborate me completely and without any bashing!

Thank you

Could you post exact filenames/domains in question?

For the first question, do you mean that he wants to take the content of xyz.com and make that a subfolder of 123.com, or something else?

For the second question, if you are using a verification file you must put the file in the root folder. You must also configure your web site to return a header code of 404 if a page does not exist, which apparently the site in question is not doing. Generally, this is something your hosting company should be able to help you correct.

My answer for your first question is you can give the redirect url for xyz.com into 123.com.

Thank you for your replies guys, the issue is over almost.

Yes wige the client has moved the entire site to a sub folder. The redirection was already done so no issue with that. The webmaster console is gathering stats and has verified the files. It seems the only issue was the TIME to record the changes, which apparently are being recorded successfully.

One more thing, the site was optimized and moved at very close intervals. The rankings are there for a few keywords on msn only. Waiting for the rest

Thank you again
