Default abc.com to www.abc.com 301 redirect

I've gone through all kinds of threads and seaches and still don't get exactly how it is done.
My host, purehost.com is a microsoft server and the techs(after being on hold so they could google it) just send me to

How to Redirect a Web Page Using a 301 Redirect

I was told by someone else that the info on that link and others like it don't apply to microsoft servers.

www.gripstik.com (work in progress)

Thanks,

John

IIS support engineers who do not know that .htaccess is not for IIS servers...

Did you try to google for IIS 301 redirect ?

This often varies by installation. As I recall, by default you can only do redirects from the internal configuration program for IIS, which you would most likely not have access to on a shared host. There are some programs that enable .htaccess functionality for IIS that web hosting companies install to allow users to configure things like redirects. For example: ISAPI_Rewrite 3 - Apache mod_rewrite compatible module for IIS However, each module works differently, and you would need to find out which, if any, is installed on your server.

If this software is not present, you would need to create a universal script in ASP, ColdFusion or whatever scripting language you use to handle the redirection.

According to tech at my host, purehost.com, it was completed via this method:

"Your 301 redirect has been corrected by adding a Default.asp page and doing the redirect from there."

The new code found at the very top of my index page is:

<%@ Language=VBScript %>
<%
response.status="301 moved permanently"
Response.AddHeader "Location", "http://www.domain.com/file-location.html"
%>.

I also noted that => now shows up at the top of the page while viewing my site on a browser.

Using a redirect checker such as Search Engine Friendly Redirect Checker - SEO Tools - Search Engine Optimization, Google Optimization my site http://gripstik.com does not show to be redirecting while a site like Expert Search Engine Placement Services :: Over 10 Years of SEO Excellence - StepForth Web Marketing Inc. shows a 301 redirect.

Is http://gripstik.com being properly redirected to http://www.gripstik.com ?

Thank you all for your time.

I just checked it with my redirect checker (see signature) and it says :

Code:
Checked link: http://gripstik.com/

Type of redirect: “meta refresh” redirect after 0 second

Redirected to: http://www.gripstik.com/index.html
So, the conclusion is : no, it is not a 301 redirect and it is not even redirecting to the address you indicated.

When I went to the page, I got no redirect at all, but the ASP code was displayed as plain text at the very top of the page.
