I agree. I think they died, and that they are just pretending being alive.

Here is my opinion, and make your own: http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=48751

Ok, after thinking back on it I realized: the last time I submitted anything to Dmoz was probably 2002. My, how time flies.

Edit: Looking back at my original post I really was commenting on the lack of site discovery Dmoz has, and it is probably the most traffic'ed "search engine" that still requires submission to be listed... And, like I said before, no one uses it.

the key here is indexing, you are submitting your site to search engine to get it index. Better way to index your site is to submit your sitemap.

Time has changed. Submission to search engines are no longer necessary as you can be easily get your domain index using blog.

The challenge will be getting your site to be listed in Top 10 or Top 20 for traffic. So, for SEO, everyone is cracking their brains to move up the ladder. If you have some good long tail keywords, then likely you will be able to move to the top. But if those are 'hot' keywords then it will be a challenge.

Bottom line, search engine submission is no longer a need in my personal opinion.

For indexing, it will be simple. For ranking, it will take a lot of work like linking, writing quality content, advertising, etc. It will basically takes time before one site can be ranked well. All you will require is patience and build your site at a gradual pace.
