Hey Mike,
Joomla is a great CMS. I have a number of sites working on Joomla.

There are a lot of forums that discuss SEO for Joomla, but I keep seeing the guys from Alledia.com all over the web.

They have a number of excellent resources. Check them out.

Hope it helps.

Ryan

Just as any web page.
Try not to use javascript menu's
Make it easy to read for the bots.
Validated pages do help a bit.
Title, keywords, content.

I believe that this on;y makes 'nice' looking links and does not 'optimise' the page.

I'd use Drupal as content management system if you want good rankings on search engines. I've used Drupal with a lot of my sites and I noticed that Google seems to favor Drupal sites in the results. I'm not saying this is a fact, but it's what I have experienced.
