I was reading another thread when a question was posed, by thorfjalar, about whether or not the ranking limitations inherent in a young domain could be overcome in some way - so that the young domain could compete on the s/engines more adequately against older, more established domains (which traditionally score a few more "points" on Google etc., and, of course, have existing IBLs etc).
Janeth suggested that "there are ways around it" and I'm intrigued - just out of curiosity (I do not have a particular task in mind) as to what anyone can suggest. Off the top of my head, I can see that, perhaps, buying a second-hand, recently dropped, domain which has existing - and relevant - traffic and IBLs, then pointing it to the 'new' domain with 301 Permanent redirects, might help .... but I'm curious to see what other ideas people might have to help out those struggling new domains and even the playing field. By the way.... here is the original thread: could my site be lacking something important, or could it just SUCK?

I dont see there is much that can be done about the age of a domain other than buying one that is already established. Or you could could just wait, I believe that once domains are over 1year old any difference due to age is diminished.
The age of the domain is just one of many factors, as there is little that can be done about I would focus your efforts on other factors that you do have control over, such as building content.

Well, the reason why older domains outrank newer domains is because of the trust that they earned over time ... one of those "trust factors" being age.
However I found that by getting links from old & trusted sites to a new one you could definitely improve the trust points of the new one. That follows the "trust rank" papers for which google holds a trademark btw for years already |
