Geo ranking of a Website

I life in Brazil and would like to build sites for local businesses in Brazil and as well in Europe.

I Host in the US and therefore have only .com domains available (as best option).

In Brazil we use the ending .br and in Europe you have .ch for Switzerland and .de for Germany.

Now to my question.

If I would build a US hosted site with a .com domain, optimized for a Brazilian local business in Rio de Janeiro, will this have any different treatment by the search engines then if this site would be hosted in Brazil with a .br domain extension ? US Hosts are cheaper and offer more for your buck that's why I host there.

I would like to offer my service to local small biz but I'm worry to make this without to know this details.

I'm a member of the Wealthy Affiliate University where we learn all about affiliate marketing and relevancy and know what I have to do SEO wise, so that's where my doubt origins.

It is always better if you host in the target country and use the proper TLD.

The major search engines use the hosting and name extension to determine where your site needs to rank.

If you use .com and host in the US your going to have a hard time ranking in Brazil. However enough links from local businesses might get you showing up there as well as the keywords you are targeting. But you will never rank as well as you would if you were hosting in Brazil with a .br name.

Those are great answers. Well in fact not so great as my theory of building a local portal in brazil using a .com domain will be more difficult now.

JUST MY TWO CENTS

If I was going to do some affiliate marketing for a site in Brazil I would;

1. Buy the .com and host the site in the US to start with. (saving money)

2. Build a site that is going to convert traffic.

3. Build a list of 10,000 keywords.

4. Set up landing pages for each keyword.

5. Get lots of links to the site.

6. Get traffic coming into the site.

7. Move my hosting to Brazil.

You save the money on the site durin the original set up phrase and should be able to make the money off the site the second you move the hosting to Brazil.

How do you think of that many keywords? Are you talking lots of location specific keywords? How do you create 10,000 different pages for each one?
