I do not know about how quickly search engines crawl wordpress blogs or blogger blogs, but I do know that after only seven days and no SEO except adding a few tags my wordpress blog is getting 3-15 views a day and Google is listing it. I originally had this blog hosted on blogger for about 10 days and I do not think that I got more than one visit the whole time. However, do not think that I prefer Wordpress. My other blog, Build Your Own Ecommerce Website!, has been hosted on Blogger for about 2 months and it is getting about 30 visitors everyday. The main reason that I like Blogger is because they will let you sell things on it. Wordpress blogs will not unless it is self-hosted. Anyway, those are just my thoughts.

Hope this helps!

Self hosted Wordpress is best, in my experience.

Blogs hosted on wordpress.com and blogger (especially blogspot often have issues with load time, plugins or feeds during times of high traffic.

A self hosted wordpress blog runs as fast as the server you put it on, and allows you to customize the blog exactly the way you want, both with the theme and with the different plugins you choose to use.

Also, it's not unheard of for blogger (I'm not sure about wordpress.com, though it wouldn't surprise me) to just dump a blog. Why put in all that hard work and not be able to control it? There goes all your work AND your search engine positioning, as you scramble for an alternative.

Mark,

I'll advance a thesis.

1. If you want simplicity go with Blogger.
2. If you want flexibility go with Wordpress.

In addition to the technical underpinnings and search engine response, you might also want to consider the overall strategic effect on your branding. A self-hosted Wordpress blog at blog.mywonderfulstuff.tld presents a much stronger brand image than mywonderfulstuff.blogger.com.

You can pretty much do whatever you want with a self hosted Wordpress blog and you can get some excellent, very professional looking templates. The beauty of self hosted Wordpress is that addons and templates just "plug straight in". The sky's the limit with so many widgets and plugins freely available.

Go for wordpress any day. Wordpress is the best software for search engine indexing on Google and will greatly improve your websites ranking on Google.

With this in mind we have added a wordpress blog offering search engine marketing advice for business on our main Joomla website. We have definitely seen an improvement to our overall website ranking especially on Google.

I blogger is easier, wordpress is a superior product that you can customize endlessly if you know some PHP MySQL and css. If you are an advanced web professional go with wordpress and if you are a novice go with blogger.

With the amount of wordpress skins, tools and plugins available any knowledge of PHP or programming is not necessary at all. Of course some CSS knowledge will be handy as you can then edit the style sheet for the skin you decide to use. Even then I think you can have quite an advanced blog set up in wordpres without ever having to code or edit the css.

We are a web design company in UK and we also maintain a blog offering web design, e commerce and search marketing resources for website owners so we do have the skills to code and modify our blog if required. However in the last few months since we have started to use wordpress we have never once had to edit the code.

None of my clients are "advanced web professionals" and many of them use wordpress. Some of them can just barely handle sending an attachment with an email and even they've learned how to use wordpress. None of them know ANY PHP or MySQL or CSS. And they still use wordpress.

Here is a tip for you...

Go to Make Money Blogging With Atomic Blogging (not an affiliate link)

Halfway down the page you will see a box where you can submit your email address and download a couple of chapters of the book for free.

I downloaded the free sample and at first glance it appears to be very informative.

Hope this helps...

Spider loves wordpress. Wordpress has the ability to ping the search engine once you create new content on your site. That's why some site also use wordpress. But when it comes to user-friendly blogger got my vote. I can't fully understand the features of wordpress.

I tried to sue Wordpress sometime ago but couldn't seem to edit it to get it seemlessly into the design of our website.
I ended using Blogger and have managed just that ... South America Ski News
After reading comments here about people losing their Blogger accounts or all their posts I am little concerned and now wonder if I should move back to Wordpress and persevere.

Is Worpress editable enough with the CSS to alter the design as much as in Blogger?
(I have never worked with PHP code btw)

I particularly like the idea of having all my posts stored in a database on our server.

I do clones of existing sites all the time. Anything that is possible with xhtml/css can be done with a wordpress template. And because there are separate templates for different wordpress functions, wordpress templates are much more flexible than blogger. With blogger you have one template that runs everything. With wordpress you can have a different homepage template, a different template for category pages, etc. So the answer is that blogger cannot match self hosted wordpress for flexibility in templating. As to whether you can do it, that depends on your skillset.

This pretty much sums it up! With Wordpress you can have a more dynamic site with a lot more "features" than Blogger. Look at all of the plugins available for wordpress. Blogger is very limited but good for 1st time bloggers to jump in the game.

You don't have the 100% rights on your blogger.com account where as if word press is installed in your domain then you have 100% rights.

An another very important thing what wordpress provides is "Import Script" allows you to simply import all your post from different location...or from other blogs...........
I m not sure whether blogger also provides any such type of import facility...........

It's possibly even more important that wordpress gives you two ways to back up your blog (both of which you should do periodically.) Using the "Export" feature in the Wordpress Admin to export your blogposts as xml is one way, and doing a database backup via cpanel/phpmyadmin or similar is the other.

The database backup saves EVERYTHING. All your admin settings, posts, categories, links, etc. etc. etc. The xml export isn't as thorough, basically saving only your posts and categories and dating structure. But it can sure come in handy.

This allows you to have two different ways to "fix" a broken blog. This fact became very important to a client of mine who blogged a bunch one week, right after he'd won an important award and his life and blog were crazybusy with his success, and he neglected to do a database backup right afterward. He then had a server oops that was bad enough to corrupt his database. However, we were able, at that point, to do an xml backup and import it into a clean installation of wordpress on a new, clean database, which didn't carry the problems along with it that the old db did. He had to reset everything in admin, but that was a whole lot better than starting the site over again from scratch, or putting up with a broken blog where certain pages only generated the html up to a certain point, then stopped.

On and off topic

I have ran a self hosted Wordpress blog for awhile and I agree with everyone that is rocks. But with reports of security issues with wordpress I'm not sure if I'm going to say with it. Wordpress being open source and as widely used, it has become a hackers magnet. Wordpress also does not have anyone dedicated to security that I know of.
So with this in mind what other blogger software is as good as Wordpress? To be honest I'm not sure. Can anyone help me out there?
or give your thoughts on these issues.

Other comments on wordpress issues.

Um, no, that's not quite accurate. Both use a backend language to GENERATE Html. And blogger, because it lacks so much of the functionality available in good blogging tools, is not for pros who wish to kick it up to the next level.

Drupal is very good, much more full featured than wordpress, and extremely security conscious. They also have a wordpress importer. Drupal is also not nearly as easy to use as wordpress. Movable Type is excellent and has a wordpress importer. I also like TextPattern, but can't remember if it has a WP importer or not.

The one to watch in future is Habari. But it isn't there yet.

I started of on Blogger but it now takes quite long to upload an article so I am swaying towards upgrading to WordPress.

Can you customise your own template in WordPress? I have customised my blogger template so its the same as the rest of my site, but was just wondering if it is easy to do so using WordPress.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

In my humble opinion there is no comparison. the new wordpress is honestly the best I have seen hands down. You can basically incorporate it into any site and the new features are incredible and easy.

I have my wordpress blogs self hosted so i have more control over them.

Also, for beginners and right out of the box there are just so many free templates available for wordpress that it makes it hard not to go with them. Really positive feedback from me about WP

well both have its own advantages and disadvantages WordPress is search engine friendly while Blogger is a user friendly, I'm using a Blogger for more than a year and I'm using a strategy that robots can crawl it for just a minutes faster than crawling WordPress so for me its just the same.

According to me the blog on wordpress must have an edge over blogspot.com, as long as you have a self hosted blog on wordpress ... but i think for those having sound technical knowledge it is good to follow the wordpress.

I really like the features of wordpress. some of them like Bolg stats, import facilities etc are really very usefull. Besides this wordpress is more search engine friendly than blogger. I dont really know blooger also provides such types of things or not.. for me , i prefer wordpress.
