Default Usenet links worth the bother?

Like many other people on here, the topic of link building is always on your mind if you run a website. Also like many, I have read numerous articles, posts and books on practices of obtaining these links. Most people will tell you to submit to directories, post to forums and blogs, and put out press releases as some key ways of getting links. Usenet is never mentioned. Looking in AWStats, there is a place for links from newsgroups. My question is what weight, if any, do these links have? Or are they classified as links from bad neighborhoods, or just bad links in general? Also trying to research this a little bit, if one writes an article and submits it into an appropriate group, if done "properly" it will be picked up by usenet search engines like binsearch and newsleech, just to name 2 popular ones, and in their search results, they will have a http://anonym.to/?http://yourdomain.com link that is displayed on their site. Does that link count or have any weight? In general, is it worth the time and aggravation to submit articles and such to newsgroups or is it best just to steer clear of them?

I understand you will not get targeted traffic from a newsgroup and you are more than likely going to get a zero conversion rate from any visitor who follows the link. My whole question is the link building side of it only and how search engines look at links from usenet.

That is not quite not easy thinkg, if you write so well enough to be crawled, why not to be writer but not a website marketer?
Some people think exchange link will be helpful. And others not
Something very strange, the company that i worked for before with a site no link on it , no people do posting ads online like blog. forum and others, but got lots of visiters daily. And the point I want o menstion is that is not settup so long and almost all the visitors are targeted. So does my present company: trade.meritline
How could it happen?
