any guidlines for a useful and efficient (seo wise) blog?
any preferred platform?

In making a blog, you must blog on what you have interest on + what people online read most. Make your blog in wordpress (just a suggestion), Every post, submit it to Digg.com, Propeller.com, and other social bookmarking sites. Add RSS feeds and RSS feeds buttons on your blog. Submit it to blog directories. Use BlogRush.com to drive more traffic (do this when you have 10 post).

I find wordpress to be the best blog software with regards to search engines.

Wordpress is a great and their are some great free templates.

Content is king with a blog. Burn your feed with feedburner and update the content on a daily basis if you have the time. Fresh feeds are picked on fast and will get you some good traffic.

Just make sure that your blog is interesting and useful to your readers.

Host it on a good hosting company, and install it on your hosting. Blog at a MINIMUM of once a week, and more is much better. Otherwise you're wasting your time.

Wordpress is most likely easiest, though movable type is also good. Just depends on your preference.
