Default Courts starting to understand the internet

Court Orders Negative Match on Trademarked Keyword

Quote:
It appears that US courts are getting more and more savvy about Internet marketing (or US attorneys are getting more and more savvy about their “expert” witnesses in these cases!). Last week, the 11th circuit court ruled that meta keywords aren’t effective for SEO (so trademark infringement in them didn’t really matter anyway), and the US District Court in the middle district of Florida ruled that a trademark infringing AdWords advertiser would have to use negative keyword matches in future searches.
I wonder how long before we have attorneys /SEO services?

It can only help if they did and actually were qualified to do so.

lol @ this. if you believe the jokes, seo & lawyers are already some of the most hated people in the world.

a combination of the 2 would go down really well.

the problem with this is surely the geographical / legal boundaries one, in that it can only be enforced in one country by that law?

in any case I am strongly opposed in general to any unneccessary form of legislation or bureaucracy.

hence i left the UK

you mean like having so little regulation that every little dispute ends up in court?

People sue each other everyday and for any reason

Stupid Lawsuit Collection

Regulations or nothing more than a way for more stupid people to start passing laws.

I don't know, I like regulations. But they have to be practical and useful of course.

Interestingly there are more lawsuits in the USA than there are in Europe, and where are there more regulations?

In the example above, the court is starting to apply the copyright law to the specifics of the internet. There is quite a bit of copyright infringement going on out there, so it would make sense that the Federal courts would get involved in these cases, ie. the regulations exist but do they apply to completely new sets of facts?

Lawsuits are problematic, it is certainely better than Beyond Thunderdome or private enforcement.
