Hate to say it but your asking such a generic question is not going to get much help in forums like these. I would ask some more specific questions , put your website up for review or visit the newbie threads.

i can tell you that it takes time #1 and you also want to post info on subjects that people search for...

for example, but you could put pictures of celebrities etc and you'd get more visitors stuff like that...

so think about what information ppl search for, and post it....also page title is very important so you have to optimize your forum so that the page title relates to the topic thats in the posting...

When using forum software, you need to ensure that each forum (category) name is either a part of the URL or page title (both is better) and that it relates closely to the forum content. Use the results you find on this forum as an example!

Also, each thread should follow the same guidelines. Again, just take a look at the page title and URL of this post! You see the page title is the same as your post and the URL also has the post title in it.

If you have experience with the scripting language your forum script is written in, ou can modifiy the script as needed to accomplish that.

Taken from Wikipedia

"Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links."

Does that help? If not, what specifically do you need to know about backlinks? You can also find tons of information on this by going to Google and typing this in the Google search box
Quote:
site:http://www.webproworld.com/ backlinks
Do not forget to put a space in between the '/' and the word 'backlinks'.
Hope this information helps.

Google does not show all the backlinks they know about. But if you click on the link and it takes you to your site it is a link to your site.

Unless they are using a link that the search engines can not or will not follow it should count for something. Unless the site that is linking to you is banned or the page is hidden so deep inside the site that the search engines can not find it.
