If you take for example Mount Juliet Golf Course & Golf Club, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland the page title has the words Golf Course and Ireland within the title tag. When you search for "Golf Course Ireland" (incouding the quotes) the site comes up 3rd which isn't bad ... but how can you get your site listed well when you don't use the quotes?
What factors influence this ranking on the results page? |

It is indeed more difficult to list at the top without quotes, because many more pages include the words "Golf", "Course" and "Ireland" than the phrase "Golf Course Ireland".
You get listed well with and without quotes if you have enough quality links pointing to your pages and if the anchor texts of these links contain the words in your phrase, including variations thereof. Jean-Luc |

If you're not too worried about international rankings you can increase local search results by using the google localization tools in the google webmaster tools...
I have clients with golf courses, some want mostly tourist therefore global exposure but more than a few are more interested in the localized search and this has worked well for them. Don't forget to map their locations in google webmaster tools too.

Thanks to you both for those suggestions - I couldn't work out how to get the search without quotes. I will work on this over the coming weeks and hope to update the thread with an update.
Thanks again! |
