Question Should I write custom meta tags for EVERY page?

Hi,

I was just wanting some advice please. Do you think it helps if you write custom meta tags for EVERY page on your site? For example, on this page (Ethnic gifts) I have written the following meta tags:

Title: Ethnic gifts

Keywords: ethnic gifts, unique gifts, african gifts, buddhist gifts, tibetan singing bowls, native american gifts, the green man

Description: Ethnic gifts imported from cultures around the world.

Do you think that would help with regards to SEO? Or, am I best to use the default meta tags that are already set on the site?

Many thanks,

Gary

Custom title is a MUST. Keywords are also important for some engines except Google and you'll never know when they might get important for Google again too. If you want to drop one, you can live without description.

yes a custom title attribute and description tag is a must. Their are ways to automate this if your website is dynamic.

I would drop the keyword tag before I drop the description tag. The description tags often appears as the description in the search engine so it's an opportunity to present a persuasive slant on your site.

I recommend distinct title and tags on every page.

Correct, for example Yahoo does it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It'll take me a while to update the whole site!

Do you think I've got the format of the tags, keywords and description right? I mean, I have mentioned 'gifts' a couple of times...Would that be seen as spamming?

Thanks again.

I think what you did was fine. It doesn't seem like spamming to me.
