Try a search for your brand name, or domain in google. If you do not come up in the first position for that, then you have probably been blacklisted. Also do a search for site:yourdomain.com to see how many pages they have indexed for you.
If it looks like you are being penalised then submit a reinclusion request through webmaster central and they should review your site and reindex if you have removed any black hat seo.

Google incidentally (I think it was Matt Cutts) say they don't bear grudges, so if you have done something wrong in the past, but "seen the error of your ways" and corrected it, then they should remove any filtering.

My site has the page rank of 5 and 135 link backs in google also google indexed 53 pages out of 60 pages. The problem is my site has listed in Yahoo and MSN in top positions I mean in first page. But in Google my site not listed anywhere. If two top search engines are listing my site in top positions. For those keywords google should have the listings atleast in 100th position but nowhere listed in google. I hope its look like google deliberate action on my site. Regards Subhash |

Ive seen this happen with sites that have used spammy techniques in the past. We had a client whose site arrived with us in the same condition as yours. After trying lots of different techniques (content change, reinclusion requests, links building) we made the decision to start from scratch with a new domain name. 9 months later and (after a period of sand box) the site is doing great.
I understand that Google "doesn't hold grudges" but i am tempted to disagree. Anyone agree?

P.S. Have you signed up for a webmaster tools account? This can help. If you have removed spammy pages they may still be listed in Googles index, you can de-index them from Webmaster Tools.

My advice may conflict with some people on WPW so get some good feedback from everyone.
I feel that, sometimes, a URL is so untrusted by Google that it will never recover from it's chequered past. We have been in this situation with a few customers and the only way to achieve positions was to start again. We de-indexed all the old URLs and put the site on a brand new domain. After the "sandbox", and with plenty of link/content building during this period, we saw the site appear in the top SERPs. This was about a 12 month period in total - from the old site being de-indexed to top page SERPs on the new site. This approach took a lot of patience and trust from the customer but he's now a happy man. What does everyone think about this approach?

Fill out the form in the webmaster tools. It's called "reconsideration" now.
FAQ: If approved, how long it takes to come back? "In the days of monthly index updates it could take 6-8 weeks for a site to be reincluded after a site was approved, and the severest spam penalties can take that long to clear out after an approval."
