Backlinks - How to get thousands of them?

Hi Members,

I am working on a website, Education related, which has to increase only the number of "BACKLINKS", without any SEO tasks to be performed other than that.

The criteria for the ranking of the website is dependent only upon the number of backlinks for the website. The higher the number, the higher is the rank of the website.

My query is, how to increase the number of backlinks to twice or thrice it's number now.

Kindly, do advise.

Go get 'em, one by one. It takes your personal attention as you want those links to come from relevant quality sites to carry value and for your site not to be penalized by Google. (Surely you don't want links from porn sites and such.) You will likely have to do reciprical link exchanges or pay others to add links to you on their site.

I think newsfeeder has hinted at the answer - its not so much quantity but quality that counts. You could get thousands of backlinks very easily by setting up a spam site with thousands of backlinks to your site, but that would be not only a waste of time but would be bad for the internet as a whole and would probably raise a spam flag at google.

If you build a good quality site then you will get backlinks without having to do anything, people will link to your site if its good.

Regarding the same query, I have one more thing which I need to clear off!

Is is that, If a website A is attached to a website B & futhermore website B consists of 500 websites linking to it, then website A will have 501 Inbound links?

Kindly, advise.

Not entirely sure what you mean here, I think the answer is thus:

website A has a link from website B and website B has 500 inbound links. Website B will only pass benefit for the single link but the 500 inbound links to website B will contribute to the benefit the website A gets from its single link.

That is a simple answer but the subject is complex and link benefit has many factors that will influence it, for example if the link from website B to website A comes from a page with many other outbound links then the benefit will be less.

Loft conversions made a good post and is spot on but that is only relevent if it is a higher position in SERPs that you require. You state that you are not to do any other SEO and that it is only the number of links that matter.

If that is the case is it link total based on individual sites or links based on just quantity. If this is not directly related to getting a better position but merely a link competition of some kind then just go an buy a load of site wide links on big directories.

That wont help in getting you listed but will give a big fast link count.

As mentioned above dont worry about numbers at all here. Just try and obtain quality links. The best way to do this is by not asking for them at all. Just building great content/website where people will want to link to you, just because.

If site B links to site A then that counts as one link, no matter how many IBL site B has. But because site B has so many IBL it will probably have a good PR and that PR will "flow" on through its OBL. (which is pretty much what ShaunParkerHP said)

Its not a case of a site with 100 IBL will rank higher than a site with 99 IBL. A site with just one IBL from an high PR, trusted site could out-rank a site with 100s of poor quality, low PR links. I managed to get a link on a traffic stats site with a PR 7, i was the only other OBL and within days my traffic had jumped up by around 30% - from one link!

As posted above,,, it's the quality that counts over the quantity,,, if you have a good quality site,, then rest assured that you will have as many backlinks as you want....

why should you make thousand link in such short time. you do not have to go that route. you know people are searching for info using different phrases. so why not first target 4 word keywords, when you have more link you challenge 3 word keyword, then when you have more link you target 2 keyword and when you have a lot more link you challenge the main keyword. that how you capture the traffic. you build up the traffic. first three month target 50 a day, 6 month target 100 a day, 9 month target 1000 a day and so on.

Forum posting would be effective especially if its coming from established forum sites which are related to your site...
Directory Submission on proper category and Social Bookmarking with "do follow" links can also help...

I think the best links come from sites which are out-ranking you for certain keywords. A dentists site that we work on has just exchanged links with a dentistry review/directory site which is number one for dozens of our dentists keywords. After exchanging links our site jumped up in the rankings. Although we have semi strengthened the rankings of the review site the benefits have far out weighed this.

Check your competitors links and submit to them one by one... Building links takes time...

Forum postings, directory submissions, blog comments, etc...
