Default Migration

I've been conducting a 'slow' migration for some time now trying to prevent any one serious dip in traffic and sales.

I have been doing some research out there and I saw something interesting which is offered by americommerce, ie. 'custom url rewriting' - in my old system, I naturally could define the specific name of the url, but with most e-commerce platforms that does not seem to be the case.

I'm just curious if any of you out there have had to deal with the issue of 'migrating' a website from one platform to another, the strategy that you used and what type of experience did you have with respect to the initial loss of traffic vis-a-vis the time it took you to regain same.
