Exclamation Q and A section

Do search engines like Question and Answer sections on a website- is this beneficial for SEO?
And would a Q and A section be good to be a part of a landing page? Or how about a forum?

Actually you may just of hit on something - but I guess it would depend on the traffic levels of the site - could lead to some good anchor text link bait. Hmmm food for thought. Forums? Well that's what they are all about in the first place.

FAQ pages have been around as long as there have been web sites, and as ctabuk says, they can be used as link bait. They can also be used as part of your customer service and visitor retention strategies. Depending on your business, you may be able to use such a page to keep visitors on your site rather than going to other sources to research the product in question. This can also help improve the customer's trust in your company, as they may see your company as wanting to provide information as much as generate sales, which in turn may improve conversions.

wige hi - It's not FAQ that this is about - I've been giving this some thought - you could ask people to come back on site and say what they thought of the goods and service.

So it could read

Our Green Widgets $50.00 dollars each -well tell us what you think of them.
Mrs Sludgemoor of Chipping Sodbury say's ' Bloody widgets, ate the cat - then ran off with my husband'.

The link bait aspect is what's appealing here - you could get loads of Cache out of this.

I have added to Chaky's rep - good topic

I do believe SEs *like* FAQs - and I agree with wige and ctabuk about the other reasons they can be valuable. I especially agree that an in-depth FAQ should keep customers on your site rather than wandering off for more research. Be exhaustive in information about your product if possible. Your FAQ can answer questions briefly and then link to more in depth information pages where necessary.

Not sure about the landing page idea. I prefer a landing page to be very targeted to a keyword phrase, and by nature an FAQ will not be geared toward one specific phrase. But perhaps I misunderstand the idea.

Cheers, MJ

Ah, hadn't considered that, but yeah, user generated content like that would build buzz, links, customer trust, all while generating fresh content that the SEs love so much.

Just need to find a way to filter out comments from customers whose spouses elope with the products.

Yup - it's a marketers dream - and other posters take heed - if I use this idea with clients -I will attribute the concept to the poster.

Never steal another guys concept and call it your own.

So I am making this post a temporary Sticky and I would welcome as many posts on this ingenious concept from all of you.

I have always heard that
  • How to
  • What is
pages are good. Then they need a descriptive and contextual, semanitc title tag and may be a structure like:

example.com\howto ....

Example: W3 Schools more than 30 mill hits / month, but they have been online for a while. But I am sure that much of the traffic comes from this structure.

Sure they will love them. Fresh original content, based on exactly what you want to rank for. As long as the advice is true and from experts you have content gold. Just need to set it up in a manner that can be indexed properly by the search engines so you can rank fro each question(s).

I suggest setting it up in a blog format. Adding a few questions per day and organize them by category.

Excellent idea about the blog. This is a good topic! I'm going to start suggesting clients use a blog to set up their FAQs ... especially for clients who resist the blogging idea.

In my opinion, FAQ section of any website ranks automatically for certain keywords, even if the Title and Meta tags are not optimized. I guess, it is because the questions and answers over there, include keywords targeted for the website, within the content.

well I guess maybe, because search engine really loves a content in the site and it may occur when someone asking a question and the other one providing an article answering thait question.
