We've reviewed a different set of SEO blogs weekly for about a year and maintain a list with descriptions of around 400 SEO and SEM blogs at:
BIGLIST SEO Blogs - Online Marketing Blog

The blogs on the list are checked monthly and anywhere from 50-100 blogs are dropped for not posting or for relevancy issues.

As SEMspot says, Todd Malicoat doesn't post much anymore (which is unfortunate for us all) and in the case of our BIGLIST, will be dropped in our next update.

Even though it's a great resource, reading 400 blogs isn't practical and sticking with the big names will likely just get you a lot of mutual back scratching. That's why I'd recommend a tool like iEntry's Search Engine News As It Happens - Search Brains as a way to quickly watch what's happening on a large number of good SEO blogs.

Many people, including myself, blog about our interpretation of what others have written or our experiences of the issue. As an Australian, I tend to avoid the blogs of loudmouths who make the time to become famous and are good at it. In most cases, they are good at stirring, but usually the passage of time tells you there was no substance.

However, I like two blogs where I find original research and opinion.

1. Bill Slawski's SEO By The Sea, because Bill loves to unearth new patents and then he explains how a search engine algo could interpret your content based on these patents. We were on a panel together at Pubcon, so I took the time to study most of his old posts and realised that I too should be reading patents instead of reading a long thread of interpretations by numerous people. In particular, his analysis of Document Segmentation for Local Search made me look beyond local search and gave me a Eureka moment.

2. Bill Hartzer Bill doesn't always write his best stuff in his blog, but sometimes he does. He is all over the forums too. Watch his own SEO techniques, particularly the ones you can see but have not seen mentioned anywhere. He's a very clever cookie.

I have subscribed to June's E-marketing Blog: It recently added a big list of blog directories, which bloggers can subscribe their blogs to create more reciprocal linkages and increase their web traffic.. it has different tips and tricks for SEO and other web marketing. The writer disclosed the tricks she used to rank her blog high in the search engines. I found many articles there helpful and interesting..! You shouldn't miss this blog!

I always find there are new things to learn from all of them. Have to take the good with the bad and know how to sort out the drivel from the substance IMHO. But you can learn from anyone and that's a good thing.

Fine I'll recommend it.. I read Sphinn every day.. Excellent resource for gathering and distilling the latest SEO news..

And if you have the time, head over to Free Internet Radio, Podcasts for Marketing and SEO...just load Webmaster Radio 24/7 and give some of the shows there a listen.. Especially that show every day at 11am EST.. Some guy that likes to break in to song hosts it and it's worth making the time for..
