Of course, I think WPW is #1 ... I also like webmasterworld, where I occasionally contribute ... I wish I had time for more of them. I love to read and learn and share about this business. MJ

Ctabuk, it is clear that alexa ranking is not a measure of quality but quantity. However the list had to be sorted in a quantifiable measure somehow. SO I selected alexa.
I also made a little java script to allow it to be sorted by alphabet or category if you prefer I am new on this forum like you noticed, and I am an active member only on DP. I think DP owns the popularity to being newbie friendly, which I do not like anymore. Time to move. Maybe I'll settle here |

Nice reply - Alexa is the equivelent of an 'ashtray on a motorbike' - it is fundamentally spyware via the toolbar - it can only read and relate to browsers on ISP that have the Alexa Toolbar installed. It gives artificial results - Imagine holding a tin can with string attached to another tin can - make the string taut and you can talk to and listen to what the other person at the other end can hear and say.
That's Alexa - A two way conversation that only people holding the tin can benefit from. |

Do you agree that in recent times the traffic became more important then Page Rank from SEO perspective? Specially after several Google 'slaps' and changes in algorithms. At least I got this sense.
Having said that I have to rely on Alexa somewhat to get any traffic ratings. There aren't simple any other traffic services out there. It's a big gap to be filled. I regret the rankings are strongly biased towards webmasters, who tend to mostly use the toolbar. But on the other hand I developed an instinct to normalize any site's Alexa ranking by dividing the rank with the probability people visiting the site use the toolbar. It's hard to explain but it's something that grows on you |

No - traffic has no baring on SERP - you can have a top spot on Google with virtually no traffic. Simply put - drop the habit - Toolbar Pagerank is dead too - the ONLY thing to concentrate on with any website is 'Internal Pagerank' Who you link to - who links to you - topic related links based on Anchor Text to the correct landing page.
Pick up any book and you can only read one page at a time - each page has a cache word or phrase that the bots will read as being 'topic related'. Concentrate on Anchor Text and Landing pages - link every page in and out - always to topic related pages. Not reciprocal - one way. |
I have just read your blog - you are still thinking high toolbar pagerank means strong links - sorry - fallacy - years ago yes - but not today.
My personal ranking:
I disagree strongly to that ranking.
SitePoint is a little afraid of relevant links to other forums. I have never noted that WebProworld is afraid of any relevant link. What is WWW without links and cross-citation? |
I cannot agree t this point. Dear admins and mods correct me if I am wrong. So far I know, we are not allowed to have a link in our signature to our own forums?

John, I remember that you once asked Mike about links in your signature? Can you find that post and write his answer here?

I have permission to put mine in here - but I have chosen not to - so I think 'seeking posters' from other forums is not really on.
Strangely enough mine is now busier than some of those mentioned ![]() but I could be biased |

David, yes yours is getting better, and may be it is the best SEO forum in England. I have noted that you have added Digg, Technocrati, Deli.ico.us ... tags to posts. That is a great improvement in my view. That gives credit to posts that deserve it.
Give and you are given back, not always from the same person that you gave to. |

But to be honest I definitely do not want to promote my forums here at WPW for some reasons.

Webnauts is such a famous guy, but I could not understand why his forum is not open to the new members.

I disabled new registrations for my forums.webnauts.net until my team will have time to setup a new board software, as we were sick of the thousands of spammers registrations which we had to handle manually.
But my forums.seoworkers.com is open for all who are not willing to join for self promotion purposes. We have there 171 members and already banned 49. We do not want quantity. We want quality. And we are seriously strict on that. You are all welcome.

Alexa rankings are also affected by other means, not just the toolbar. For example, I use the SearchStatus add-on for Firefox and it points out that "Alexa queries made do affect Alexa statistics. Compete queries made do affect Compete statistics."
Yes, one tends to stick to certain webmaster forums. I read many but post in a few - hence my "new member" status here. |
