Angry Blatant Website Copy

Hi,

Not been here in a while, but got the email today where someone else had their site copied and posted about it here. So what do I do, just run a quick check on Copyscape - Website Plagiarism Search - Web Site Content Copyright Protection and what do I see? Someone copied some of my text and meta tags, which I spent hours putting together and tweaking. It has been virtually the same for the last 2 years on my site.

My site has been round since 2002/2003 and I have a static google ranking of 5/10. His site has no ranking as far as I can tell.

So I send out an email to the website owner (UK) and to the admin & Tech contact (based abroad). Within minutes the admin/tech contact replies and states it is not their problem as they are only the technical and billing contact. Is this correct?

Now waiting to hear from the UK person who happens to live nearly in the same part of town as me. I gave him 48 hours. What do I do next from a UK standpoint if he does not comply?

Thanks for the help and tips in advance.
Not sure if I can name and shame the website in question. Don't want to get libeled but I am 100,000% sure the text is mine as I wrote it.

D.

If you're completely sure then you can send a cease and desist notice to the owner of the domain. As far as I'm aware, under UK law the host also has a legal obligation to remove content (or block the domain) of any site hosting illegal content. This is usually reserved for unsuitable pornography and file sharing, but I'm sure it extends to copyright issues and plagiarism. Contact an online copyright lawyer - I have a very good UK based online copyright lawyer if you'd like a reference.

I am not 100% sure who the host is. in the Whois info it states Godaddy is the IP location. But then it also says this:

Domain servers in listed order:
ns3.secureserver.net
ns4.secureserver.net

Is this GoDaddy? Can I contact them? Will they do something?

So yes, indirectly, the host is GoDaddy as far as I can tell. I would send the information to Wild West Domains. They're the reselling branch of GoDaddy.

Thank you all!

It has been sorted. The thief changed the text on his site. So mission accomplished. Until the next time.

Thank you for all your help!

I'm pretty sure that is Godaddy's name servers.

This happened to me. The guy copied my site. It is here http://www.albstech.com/index-2.html

Mine is here Professional Freelance PHP MySql Programmer / Developer

I have since updated my website and he has what was in place maybe 6 months ago. Very close though.

That is also Godaddy's address. Wild West Domains is a reseller company that sells everything Godaddy and owned by Bob Parsons.

Here is more info https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/about.asp?ci=8921
Look at the bottom of the page for the address.

Congrats!!!

Very rare that a thief changes website content without any legal notice etc.

Once I had to change whole design and content of my website coz I haven't copyrights for that ans my competitor got it copied within one week I launched the website

There are lots of those online just copying the other site without permissions. To Google, they knows who copied or not because it depends when was the site indexed.... so the one who copy are the one who will suffer... They ignored or violates one of the rules of Google about duplicate contents...

I am still pretty much confused about duplicate content penality:

Let me ask few questions:

Suppose I created a new website for offering my services at a new country website home page has new content totally different from my old website but

I have to keep

testimonials, portfolio and case studies same as my other domain.

Will tihs cause duplicate content penality

If yes

what can I do to escape such penalty?

I think this will not be a duplicate content, as you are the one who is providing the service. All you have to do.. you have to mention which country the case studies belongs to..
