Default Parked Domain vs. 301 redirect

I have done some reading on this forum re: parked domains vs. 301 redirects. I would greatly appreciate thoughts/input on the following.

A client has and existing site (oldsite.com) that we want to set up a 301 redirect to newsite.com to take advantage of existing PR.

She also purchased several other domain names that are not being used currently but which she would like redirected to newsite.com. The hosting company (which she inherited flighthost.com) is recommending that she park ALL domains under newsite.com.

I'm not clear on the difference/relative benefits of parking vs. 301 redirect other than parking will save her $$ since she won't have to pay for hosting.

From what I've read, all domains should be set up with a 301 redirect.

Most reseller hosting these days allows unlimited domains. I've got a couple names 301'd into other sites, and simply created a very minimal "hosting plan" for these sites in my whm panel, since they'll be low bandwidth/space. If this isn't the type of hosting plan she has, it may pay for her to look at this type of hosting and move the sites in question. The fact that all the sites are on the same IP block shouldn't matter if they're redirected anyway. She may pay a bit more for a reseller account, but it will handle all the domains, so she'll probably come out somewhat better costwise too.

301s are not the only viable option.

In fact, if the host provides forwarding for parked domains, that is preferable to doing it yourself by any other means.

I was in the same situation. Finally I took all the domains off of hosting plans and then just
park them and 301 directed them. It still is white hat and saved money and you really do not have to worry about being penalized.

My vote would be to park and 301 and save some money to increase her ppc campaign.
