XML site maps are easier to create using automated programs.
creating and managing site maps by hand coding is not good practice. however, you can let the programs create the site maps and then edit and tweak it by hand.

It depends on your site navigation structure is. If it is bad, they can be very useful. Otherwise it is just a nice thing to have.

Till now i've used XML for sitemaps, but recently i came to know that some ror is also used. Any idea?
