Client/Agency Closing Doors Now What For Payment?

I know this question has been asked before on this forum and many, many others, but I just thought I would ask again. I have a agency partner that is closing their doors. They owe me for work rendered last month. I worked on a hourly basis and then sent them an invoice. Obviously I would like to be paid, but I was curious what course of action others have taken in similar situation(s).

These have been good people to me, but this sum of money is pretty big. Maybe not big enough for legal action and even if I took it maybe their is no money to get!

Just looking for some opinions.

What did they say when you asked to get paid? - assuming you did ask

What about a collection agency? The thought of getting hounded daily, might be enough...

Yeah I am going to wait a bit before I consider going after them. The attorneys are looking at assets, receivables and payables right now. Pretty standard I guess when a company closes. That is all my contact said to me.

I would have appreciated much more positive statement considering our past relationship. Like hey were paying you first man!

Maybe your contact was too effected with what is happening in the company that they forgot to mention your pay. I would get in touch once more and clearly state that you would like your money asap just to clear any misunderstandings. If they still do not respond, you did your part by being clear and now you must take legal action.

Don't think so. I have a few contacts there and I was talking directly with the accountant this time. She said that "it is all in the attorneys hands now". Of course this basically means Uncle Sam gets first dibs and probably not much left for us "vendors".

Crap. I can understand this happening. Just bugs on how just poorly it was handled, to say the least. Especially considering a previous solid relationship with them. Disappointing.
