Lightbulb Widgets, Gadgets and other tools. Part of SEO for Web 2.0?

We have Yahoo Widgets, Microsoft Vista and Google desktop GadGets etc. What is the marketing value of these tools?

Are they part of SEO for Web 2.0?

I repeat my personal Web 2.0 SEO Rule:
Write dynamic quality (text) content with simple, clean code and good headings and foccused relevant anchor text submitted to important portals. In addition make (dynamic) content, webapplications, webservices, social networking, movies, podcasts and games that tie surfers to your site. Syndicate part of your content. If you have an eCommerce site, make affiliate programs that syndicate content much more advanced than via links and banners. If you have an international site, translate the content to different languages.

Does that rule encompass those new tools or are they part of a broader SEO concept for inernet2.

I think it does. The gadgets and widgets are mostly a new way to syndicate your data, delivering it directly to a self-qualifying interested party's desktop. The few widgets that don't syndicate content from the web site provide other dynamic content that the user should find useful, and if carefully branded will remind the user of your company or site every time he or she uses or even sees the gadget or widget.

Those search engine widgets are mostly marketing tools for the search engines them selves. Of course they´re dictated by the need from the market, but still the most important effect is that they keep the focus on themselves.

As long as search engines can only really deal with text and links, it doesn't really matter what you put on your site. But for user experience it is extremely important.
