Dear all,
Google shows one of my web-site pages on top of most search-results where my web-site exists. The problem is that this is not the homepage of my web-site and I would not like this specific page to be on top. Is there any way to "tell" Google which page to show first? Thank you in advance for your answer. Best regards, Emmanuel |

Google (once) use(ed) something called preffered domain names? I am unsure whether it exists any longer. It was related to redirections and canonical issues.
Why do you put this post here and not in the Google sub forum?

because he gets an answer either way?
As far as i know, google makes it a point to rate pages individually - so the content on those specific pages are what google wants to show because the search querry is specific to your page. to help put your domain name appear first you can work on the internal links of your website by placing a link to your home page on every page [ not a problem if you have a navigation menu ] you can also build links to your home page with the related keywords as well as optimize on site for them as well. with enough work you will get a double result on the serps with your homepage first and your sub page tabbed right underneath it. or you would put a 301 redirect - but that would defy the purpose of having your page as number 1 in the serps anyways. |

If you want your sub-pages to rank better simply get more links pointing to them that will help them rank. usually the home page has a majority of IBL's, thus is ranks better than sub-docs.

If I understand it correctly, you want your homepage to rank high and non of your internal web pages. But then you don't understand Google.
Google doesn't show websites in its results. It shows web pages. If an internal page for a specific keyword is better than your home page, then it will show the internal page. I don't really understand why you have a problem with this. Don't you want your visitors to visit the page that has the content they´re searching for?
