Default Changing ownership without hurting SEO ranking

Hi Everyone,

Our company recently purchased a site that has a great ranking in google for the site. We want to know what the Do's and Don'ts are for adding/changing the current content.

We eventually want to turn the site http://www.hypnosis.org from what it is into a good information site for people wanting to learn about hypnosis. Both for Training and for Hypnosis Sessions.

If you take a look at the current page you will see that it's much to be desired.

So can anyone point out some links/information that can help us out.. that'd be great.

Thanks in advance!
John Paul

Pretty general and broad based question there. Not sure if anyone can explain to you on how to make a "good" website. I think that is up to those who are creating it.

I think if you looking to make a solid information website on hypnosis then look at this website as an example:

All About Vision: Guide to Eye Care and Vision Correction - LASIK, Contact Lenses and Eyeglasses

This is a website that is full of great info on eyeglasses and sunglasses and ranks very well. You could use it as a model of how to create a great information website.

I think u misread my post..... My main question is...

Our company recently purchased a site that has a great ranking in google for the site. We want to know what the Do's and Don'ts are for adding/changing the current content.

I used to work for iEntry ( the people that run this forum ) So i know how to make "Good" websites.

I just need help with SEO .. We purchased hypnosis.org and it's eventually gonna get changed... however.. what steps to I need to take to try to keep the ranking it has now for the search term of hypnosis.

Thanks,
JP

Well considering that the content you will be putting on their will more than likely be far better than whats there now, you should be ok.

The biggest issue is if (when) Google and the other search engines "reset" the domain after it changes ownership. This will could cause the biggest change in your rankings, because you will lose most of the backlinks that the domain currently has. I have no proof of this, but I have seen it happen on other domains transfers.

Mr Paul,
You should take care that you don't change all the contents of your site in a single shot rather change periodically meanwhile try to get more backlinks too.....Trace whether your new contents are getting indexed submit updated sitemap ; hope all this will help you

Hey Everyone.. that does help.. We are doing the small changes at a time now.. keeping a close look on how google is changing the ranking. We got lucky and kep the domain with the same registrar as it was previously. All of the backlinks won't change.. we will be offering the same links and such for now... Until our big update.. which won't be for a long while.. although its getting closer and closer to time for the big change.
