SEO Guide by Chris Beasley. It's completely free and definitely the most accurate.

Hi..... without a doubt the best SEO book out there is one written by Aaron Wall. It is called SEO Book and is a pdf file of more than 300 pages. I have been using Aarons book for about 6 weeks now and I can tell you from what I have seen happen to my sites that his advice and techniques are dead on accurate.

You can find the book at ....... you guessed it........ Aaron Wall's SEO Book.com His blog is updated regulary and it gives great advice as well.

Eric

Aaron's is conceptually good as its constantly evolving. Any book that actually gets into print is out of date before it hits the Amazon warehouse.

You can't beat forums plus trial and error.

The Best SEO book is the one that hasn't been written yet. SEO is a fluid ever changing evironment of facts figures needs and wants.. Never mind the fact that you have to balance web design and usability while flirting with the Big Boys to get a date in the top ten.

This forum might be the best resource of what is ahppening now. Yahoo just had an update....what made you improve or fall back? what's important today?

85% (yes that's an arbitrary number) of SEO is boiler plate Links Content keywords code. But it's that other 15% that determines whether you are in the top ten or top one hundred. And, when you are finally dancing on the head of the pin of the top ten in google.....it's the nth percent that determines who is one and two and so on.

So get your base education.....and then get ready to learn and keep learning every day of your life.

my favorite is the seo book by Aaron Wall. The tips in it helped us rank on the first page of Google for most of our terms in less than 6 months.

The problem with Aaron Wall's book is that he knowingly published misinformation in it as well as his blog. Considering that people are paying for it I think he owes it to his customers to at least publish accurate information.

And I agree that forums are the best place to learn. There's no need to pay for an SEO book when you can get the same information, that is current and accurate, for free.

When I started learning about SEO, I never bought any book. I researched about the topic, got many ebooks, forum topics, articles etc which helped me to learn how to optimize the website to get top rankings in SE's.

I never considered myself as SEO Expert as everyday I learn something new about it.

I have heard that Aaron Wall's SEO Guide is pretty good book for the starter only. But for latest update, one has to follow up forums & blogs.

I agree with some of the previous posts about the fact that the most accurate and up-to-date information is in the forums. However, in the forums you find good and truthful information mixed with many misconceptions and out-of date reccomendations. The problem for the novice is to distinguish is good information from what is simply rubbish. And to get to know that you must have some good background. So, while it is still true that information in books get out of date fast, it is in book where you can get your first lessons on this complex subject, and then go to the forum for the last information.

A good book about SEO in Spanish is Posicionamiento en buscadores, published by Anaya Multimedia.

While Forums are good places to learn about SEO, having an established author like Ross Goldberg detail their actual SEO procedures, not

theory and not conjecture is much better in the long run instead of running from one forum to the next trying to find out what technique actually works or what is someone's opinion on what should work.

The SEO guide i linked to above is only a month old. I'd say it's worth a read through.

I think experience is the best teacher in SEO. As you work with more websites in different industries and service sectors, so grows your knowledge base and experience as to what works.

Some basics of SEO will remain the same and you can never go wrong with them.
example: Unique and quality content. W3C validated code.

Actually validated code really has nothing to do with SEO. Most sites have code that do not validate with no detrimental affects to their rankings. Validated code is a good thing, but not a factor in SEO.

You really shouldn't trust Aarn Wall. He's wrong very often.

Agree to that.

But books are great in the sense that you get a better overview of the subject by reading them, eg. on a holliday.
