Re: New Web Directories
a free link is a free link, but the first web directory has a PR of zero.
how much good is this going to do my site?

Most of those have PR0, but I don't see a problem with getting an easy free link.

exactly. and part of the reason we acquired them is to build them up... or do we honestly think they will be at a low PR forever?

Re: New Web Directories
Also what does the out-dated Google toolbar PR have to do with getting a quality, relevant link? NOTHING!

Re: New Web Directories
If they were a PR10, they probably wouldn't be free, but in their infant stages they are.

The links Chris posted are going to add to the PR of all of the directories.
1. You can wait until the toolbar shows PR at which point they may not be free.
2. You can point links to the site to add to the PR, wait, then see #1 above.
3. Or you can ignore PR altogether.

Re: New Web Directories
Now that you're acquiring web directories, I might know of a few (ahem) web directories that might be available.
In fact, I bet there's a lot of people out there that have web directories that were built about 2-3 years ago when it was "fashionable" and "trendy" to build a web directory about something "in their niche". Now it appears that everyone's jumping on the "social media" bandwagon and creating "social" sites.
Keep in mind that when you're adding sites to web directories, I would look for a few things:
- make sure that the page where your site is going to be listed doesn't have "issues" like being grey-barred (or PR0, etc.)
- make sure that the page where your site is going to be appear is indexed.
- it might not be a bad idea to look at the sites already listed on that page where your site is going to be listed and make sure that the directory is showing as a backlink (check Yahoo! using the linkdomain:domain.com search).
- make sure your site is going to be listed in an on-topic category
- make sure your site is going to appear on a page without a ton of other links (when I say "a ton" I mean typically 100+ links on the page.

Reason: thought of something to add.

Re: New Web Directories
Now that these directories have been bought by Ientry I am sure they are going to become more and more relevant. If we add to them, they will become more and more relevant. Sounds like we're getting in on the ground floor for free.
Now who's complaining about getting something for nothing....?
Help you are a good and wise man but your posts have always seem to run in the "if you build it they will come" philosophy and I think SEO is still breathing. Especially when your in the top ten of google/yahoo/msn and what seperates you from your competition is 1/100th of a percent, your looking for any edge. I'll take this one (well I already did) and even if it goes no where, it was worth every penny

I'm not so sure I understand what you're getting at Matteo.
Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken but I don't recall anyone advocating "build it" and sit back on your hands and do nothing.
Again, please correct me if I'm mistaken, but you leave me with the impression that you think SEO is no longer breathing.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the list.
Actually, i25hotlanes isn't exactly free - it does require a reciprocal link. I tried to submit a site but it would not accept my submission because I hadn't provided the address of a reciprocal link.
I may add a couple of the others to my list of quality free directories at General & Niche Directories - Free Website Submissions next time I update it.
Thanks!
best,
Denise

The toolbar PR is 3-4 months behind what Google internal PR is for each web document. Google does a PR export 3-4 times a year. When conducting SEO I really dont see a reason to involve PR for the toolbar.

Re: New Web Directories
Hi Chris,
Nice directories.
I have submitted my websites in some of these directories. I hope, they will be accepted.
