Default 2 Domains 1 Site - Indexing

Hi,

I have read WpW for some time, but this is my first post.

Here is my situation, i was hoping for some help.

I have a domain name lets say. domain.com

I recently purchased domain.com.au (the australian version)

I would like to park the .com.au version ontop of the .com page, but im not sure how this will effect ranking / search results.

My concern is that for eg, when a user searches google.com.au (and specifies from australia only) i would like my site to show. at the moment it doesnt seem to.

Ive read different views 301 redirect v 302 and im a little confused.

looking forward to your help!

- Tworak

You have 2 choices.
Continue to use the .com but switch to an Aussie web hosting company, OR
Switch to your .com.au domain as your primary and continue hosting it wherever you currently are.

1. I would recommend targeting Australian visitors by building two websites:

.com targeting American visitors and .com.au domain for Australian visitors.

Of course that is if you want to target both countries.

2. If you don't have time or the wherewithal to do this then two options:

a. If you don't plan on building the .com.au website anytime soon you can 301 redirect the .com.au domain to the .com domain
b. If you plan on building a website within a 1 year then leave the .com.au domain alone until your ready to build.

Here is a site SA Venues that does the following:

1) They have a .COM site hosted on a South African server.
2) They have a .CO.ZA site which does a 301 redirect to the above.
3) They have their .COM site on a dedicated server.

They get over 1 milion visitors per month.
See their worldwide visitor distribution here:
1) Alexa rank for: sa-venues.com/
2) WHOIS for: sa-venues.com

It seems to host a .COM in your own country will do the trick.
Hope it helps in answering your question.
