Does the web host have anything to do with the ranking?

Thanks

The hosting company shouldn’t have anything to do with your ranking. Who are you using? There has been discussion about multiple sites on shared servers and duplicate copy issues, but nothing for sure. What are the details behind your question?

Your webhost only affects country specific search. You will rank better in local searches for the country your server is located in. It does not affect general search.

Usually I would have the same answers, but a new shady tactic has just surfaced.

If the site is down, then yes--it would have an effect on ranking.

If the site is hosted in one particular country then it could have an effect on rankings in certain countries.

I have to ask about the article on the hosting company. Is that actually a fact. Is there proof the hosting company is doing this?

Sure, proof is very important. I saw the screenshot of the client's email box showing the email. This news is making the rounds as other people pop up having had the same thing done to them.

I've done some searching and found a thread that includes posts from John system stability manager here at DreamHost - http://www.seopedia.org/internet-mar...ock-googlebot/

My concern is a client of mine that hosts with them. This post was very helpful!

Yep, that's one of the posts I had seen.
He should have left it alone, he was getting eaten alive :)
