Default External links on a homepage - how much is too much?

Hello All,

How many external links on a homepage is too much?

Let's say you have good content, PR6, and your main keyphrase
SERPs at 22 on Google.

NOT counting internal links, would 10 external links
be the "magic number" - the limit before it hurts your PR?

Or can one go to 15 external links and be safe?

Sounds fine to me.

Thanks, my customers are just paranoid!

What if you don't have very many IBLs? Would you then
begin to worry that 15 is too much?

Let's say that with SeoQuake, you get these stats for a customer's site:
  • PR:6
    Google IBL: 47
    Yahoo: 489
    MSN 255
    Alexa Rank: 861289
    Domain Age: 27 Jul 2004

Kinda sucky numbers, but that PR6 is generating allot
of sponsors for them. So, do these numbers change an
OK for 15 Outbound links?

At this point, Outbound links are hitting 9. Customer wants to go as high as possible (sponsors ,~) - but
doesn't want to loose that (I know, I know ,~) PR6.

How can anyone say if I add more links to my page my PR will change? So many other variables are involved it is silly.

Link out to websites because it can help your visitors, not for what it can or cant do for PR.
