Default SE friendly advertising question

Hi,

I recieved an email from an advertising company asking if I would consider selling ad space to their clients. Here's part of the email:

I have clients looking to place small text based ads on sites like yours. If you are interested let me know your price and if you prefer to be paid via PayPal or check? I prefer the ads be placed at the top, middle, or bottom of the main content area of the site. However, I am sure we can work out
placement.

I've read text links are not ideal. Other than Adsense, which I currently run, what are some SE friendly ways of selling ad space and advertising? I don't what to fill the pages with ads but 1 per page seem reasonable.

Thanks in advance,
T

Placing text add's are good if you want to earn some extra revenue.
I would like to advertise some relevent, high PR informative sites on my site so that my visitors gets some good reference sites; also
this would help me for SEO.
