Default WPW Postings raise your rank?

I'm a lazy webmaster... I work on my site and then I quit for a while, and then I start again. and every time I work on it the rank rises a little more... as it should be right? well I noticed something strange, a coincidence if you will...

recently Google released a larger section of the backlinks it shows you in the webmaster tools section... I used to see about 300 of the backlinks to my site, now under the new release there are about 900... about 200 or more are webproworld.com postings... mmmm if you notice next to my name on the left, I only have about 250 postings... mmmm

instead of working on my site, should I just be writing postings for webproworld? well just in case here's the token link Custom House Plans

so what do you kids think? WPW isn't related to my site, but google definatly knows them and I'm sure the get some good link lovin... how valuable is the WPW posting link?

I see what you are saying and I have noticed the same with my postings.
I would not remove all weight to the WPW links, but I would not rely on them to benefit you GREATLY. They will do a little, but not as much as we all wish.

I also noticed a mass of webworld backlinks in my Google webmaster catalogues. It definitely is a boon that Google is tracking them. Can't hurt for sure. Although, I doubt there is any real "value" tied to the IBLs, and what there is would only be credited once, for the one IP address.

Pretty cool though that you can participate in an interesting place, learn some things, have fun, and get recognized by Google for it... :)

Nope.

Google is looking to show you all backlinks regardless of how they effect your websites ranking. Matt already mentioned this on his blog so people did get the wrong idea.

Keep relevant link building!!

Sayeth Matt Cutts, Google's public voice on SEO issues --

Quote:
"Do not assume just because you see a backlink that it’s carrying weight.

I’m going to say that again: Do not assume just because you see a backlink that it’s carrying weight. Sometime in the next year, someone will say “But I saw an insert-link-fad-here backlink show up in Google’s backlink tool, so it must count. Right?”

And then I’ll point them back here, where I say do not assume just because you see a backlink that it’s carrying weight."

I think incrediblehelp meant to say "Matt already mentioned this on his blog so people didn't or wouldn't get the wrong idea."

Social networking is important for direct and indirect linkbuilding as long as you write meaningful posts.

There is a saying:

"If you are not an expert, study to become one."

Then the links will follow like a natural law. Even if not all links carry weigths, the accumulated sum may. But may be good posts are better Ad for WPW than for you.

Side note:
In a bull market every financial advisor is a genious. There are few left in a bear market. Today, february 8 2007, in the pure beginning of the digital (web) revoution there are a lot of "SEO and SEM experts".

Like in finance, some sites mature and become my personal favourites. There is (at least was the last time I checked) so much "Forex trading spam" on the SERP's that I stick to those that have found gold rather than to those, includimng myself, that is still searching for gold.
