Default Which Page To Link To When Submitting Articles?

Hi,
I've submitted articles before with a decent amount of success, but I've always wondered, is it better to link to the home page or the page that you're trying to get to number 1 in the search engines?

For example, if I discover that the keyword "blue widgets" (An example keyword to to help keep things simple), get's a lot of traffic and is directly related to my website, I'm going to want to rank highly for that search term.

So I make a seo'd page on my site all about "blue widgets", and then (After I've seen that that particular page has been indexed by the search engines), create a very similar article and send it off to as many relevant article directories and such as I can find.

Now, in the authors resource box I would put "check out my cool new website about "blue widgets"".

I would make the text "Blue Widgets" a link to:

A. The home page so they see my site from the front page and maybe sign up to my newsletter/forum etc

B. The seo'd original page to increase inbound links with very highly relevant anchor text.

or C. ?

To me, the answer seems to be obviously B, but I've never actually done this (Stupid me), I've always linked to the home page.

My reason for thinking this is that I want MY site to be ranked at the top of the search engines so people come directly to me, and not through some article directory that might end up ranking higher for the keyword using my article.

To achieve this I would need a good few high quality links.

Am I thinking about this the wrong way, or is my thinking on track?

While you're here, can anyone offer advice on use social networks to increase inbound links. I've heard the buzz, but never actually understood.

Thanks guys.

Always try to link to the most relevant page on your site.. It gives you a deeper link in to your site and also delivers a potential customer closer to what they are looking for..

I agree with Feydakin.

Provide a link back to the page which you want to promote. If you want to promote the SEo'd page, then provide a link to the same. If you want your home page to show up for the keyword, link to your home page.

Step:1. Take a page where you have mentioned about your product.
Step:2. Optimize the page using the same keyword as that of the product.
Step:3. Provide a link back to this page (which you want to promote)

To sum it up, optimize and link to those pages which you consider very important for your business.

Great advice - since I run an article directory - I can tell you i'm amazed at how many don't follow simple things. However I always say to include at least one like with a keyword in it and one url - the reason is that when your article is distributed - of course the links should all be maintained... but we know that they aren't... so at least the urls will be present...

I couldn't agree more. By linking deep you'll also be able to get your new pages spidered even faster. It is also a great way to get a brand new site spidered quickly!

The linkage to homepage/sub-domain page is a matter when different content is provided in the pages of the site. Link the one which you think is the best suitable to your subject of the article.

Another point is that the search engines love deep linking to your sites. It makes the links appear more 'natural'. So linking deeper into your site will actually help the site as a whole.

Thats a great point as well. It will also help to increase your page rank on that page.
