Default redirection

Hello;
I have 2 sites and 2 domain names. Site 1 points to site 2 via .htaccess and redirect permanent. It works fine except some of the search engines index site 1 instead of site 2.
I wish to close site 1. I asked my hosting company for site 2 to park the domain name from site 1. They refuse to do this. They insist I use redirection.net to do the redirection. I'm OK with this. But will it affect search engine results? Could it be considered spamming or anything? Anything I need to be concerned about?

thanks very much for any advice.

Laurie

Seems to me that your hosting company is not too friendly, that is a service that most hosts will do without charge for up to ten domains per site.

You didn't mention why you want to close site 1 or if there is duplicate content on either of the sites. If you want to still use the old domain name #1 pointed to domain 2, you could:
  • Host your site with someone who does this as a matter of course.
    Put up a Robots.txt file on Site 1 telling the search engines not to index the site.
    Use redirection.com with a permanantly moved redirect.
There should be no problems SE wise with any of these solutions IMO.
