different urls with similar content within a site
i have a large travel site which was created in 1996 and has always ranked quite well for my keyphrases.
The site has thousands of pages and subdomains. The manner in which the site was constructed allowed for the user to reach a destination from different navigation points i.e through the map on the homepage or left/right navigation.
The problem now is that i have multiple pages with the same content but with different urls depending on where the user clicked. My homepage place.com is also returned if you use the subdomain county.place.com, county2.place.com etc.
We will be revamping the site in the new year but i am worried about duplicate content issues. I was wondering about a modrewrite & permanent redirect of urls. How does Google view subdomains within a site?.is it more tolerant if 2 different urls have similar or same content if a subdomain is involved?
