I'm in the process of setting up at least one new blog with complimentary content to one of our already established websites. I wanted to find out, for SEO purposes, is it better to put the blog under the current established website domain (eg domain.com/blog) or set it up as it's own site/domain and link to/from the established website. Any opinions? Thanks in advance!

Hi amreli,
There has been a lot of discussion about the subject. IMHO it is better to put the blog under the current established website domain (domain.com/blog), you probably have an stablished site which means the blog will be picked up sooner by the SE, so you don't have to work as hard to get your blog indexed, and having it in your own domain will also give you credibility as a blogger. Check this thread, it explains it clearly: http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=65448 |

Always put it on a domain name that you own, I wouldn't use any of those blog hosting services for your main blog.
As for whether or not you're going to put it on an existing domain name (your own site), that really depends. If your site is established and has links, then I would use the power of WordPress or some other blogging software to put it in something like: www.yourdomain.com/blog rather than it's own domain name. But, if both are going to be new, then I would consider putting it on a separate domain name (company site on one domain and blog on its own). There are benefits to putting the blog on the same domain name as your main site, especially given the fact that your blog generally will add content to your main site on a regular basis and it will also help get links--adding content and getting links will keep your site "fresh" and will ultimately help search engine rankings.
