I'm managing a commercial site with about 10,000 pages but I'm new at this and have a lot to learn. WebProWorld is a marvelous resource but a search didn't turn up anything that seems pertinent to this question: Our site publishes short new product stories almost daily, and we have stories back as far as 2001. Assuming that no one is likely to look up a new product announcement for, say, a cell phone that was introduced in 2001 (since it has long since been retired for newer models), I suggested to the website owner that we delete such stories older than a couple of years.
His response was that by saving all these stories, the site will be given more weight for content by Google. Although I recognize that this could be true, I haven't been able to find any specific info about this and he couldn't remember where he read this. Is he right? Toni |

The site is iApplianceWeb.com.
I don't know anything about Google's supplemental index and couldn't find a good explanation when I did a search. Can you either explain a little more, or refer me to a good source of information so I can educate myself about this? I did find a reference to the belief that Google gives a higher ranking to sites that have been around a number of years, which supports the site owner's inclination to keep old story pages (each story has its own page), but this was just somebody's comment here on WebProWorld, not an authoritative source, and someone else disagreed with it. |

The way I see it: every indexed page is like a brick. You can build your house with it. Never delete an indexed page.
