I want to learn more about how URL forwards affect
SEO.
I have a site called HandicappedPets.com about elderly, disabled, and injured pets.
I want to create another site HandicappedAnimals.com and trade links, etc, with myself. This is White Hat, right?
If HandicappedAnimals.com consists of a URL forward to a folder on HandicappedPets.com, like HandicappedPets.com/Animals...
a) Can I submit and get ranked on HandicappedAnimals.com, or do the engines 'know' that this is just a part of HandicappedPets.com and list it accordingly?
b) My host is 1and1.com. I don't understand their URL forwarding technique. When I set up a URL forward, it asks for Title, Keyword, and Description... so I assume that the pages tags are masked somehow, but I don't know whether this is transparent to the search engines, or if I should be playing with .htaccess.
So, if I want to get rankings on HandicappedAnimals.com, should I:
1) Buy a separate webhosting package and make it a completely different site?
2) Put the HandicappedAnimals.com site in a folder of HandicappedPets.com and do a URL forward?
3) Do #2, but set the .htaccess parameters in some way such that the meta tags in the index.htm in the folder are used, rather than the meta tags suggested by the URL forward.
Any light shed on this would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mark Robinson
