Default .Com, .Org & SEO

I have the .com and .org extensions for my name which are just basic one pagers with similar but not exact meta tags. I was just doing some test searches on Google and it seems like the .org website appears higher for some name searchers than the .com one even though the .com has a better PR (both are low however.) It could easily be the content on the page but I’ve never seen any mention of .com/.org SEO so I was wondering if Google (and the others) value .org domains higher than .coms when all else is equal?

Thanks for any feedback!!

Tom

No domain extensions have preference to Google. Thee are probably other factors, probably off page, that are affecting this.

I agree with stymiee but in some cases if the .org is an authority site it comes up first than .com

This is not true. It is just like saying a .org has preference over a .com. Of course if a website has more authoritative backlinks and is considered a better resource it is going to rank higher than one that is not.

I used to be a slight believer in this conspiracy. Thinking .gov's and .org's would just always rank higher than .com or .net. It is simply not true. The fact is those .gov's and .org's are just more likely to have many more trusted backlinks and higher quality content than the average .com or .net.
