Default What on-page factors constitute a good quality inbound link?

My first post but I have been lurking for a while and have read a lot of the useful information here!

I would like to have your opinions on what on-page factors contribute to a good quality link. I have read that too many outbound links will dilute the quality of the link and that the page topic should be related to the linked-to page. Are there any other factors do you think? Like keywords in the title or in close proximity to the link for example?

Default Quality of inbound links

Bill,

1. Good text to link ratio, i.e. avoid link farm style pages.
2. A relevant page title
3. Relevant content

Do not forget that you can take poorly written article that exists on a website that is not seen as an authority in the search engines and move it to a website that has authority and it will do better.

I believe search engines sometimes ignore "on page" factors for things like domain age and trust.

BUT do as dburdon says as you wait for your day in the sun, website building requires patience and the ability to delay gratification.

Default Re: Quality of inbound links

Relevant content, targeted keywords, relevant title, headline & meta tags. All these on page factors are helpful in getting backlinks.
