Default iframes negative effect on a ranking?

When I use an iframe in my code, does that have a negative effect on my ranking? Does a SE dislike websites that have one or more iframes? Hmmm, come to think of it, some banner ad scripts like PhpAdsNew use iframes to show banners so it shouldn't be a problem, should it?

Reason for asking: when I look at my source code, my actual content is all the way down there, if you catch my drift. It is true I do have a lengthy left block with my menu, a poll, etc. If I were to put all that code in an iframe, my actual content would 'move up' and I might get a better ranking? True or false?
