As most anyone following discussions at WPW knows, we just tripped over the other side of a significant series of "usability" discussions here where blood almost spattered the walls. I in no way want to reinvigorate that with my post here.
With that said, for me, one of the more important statements in that article is worth repeating:
Quote:

"Usability meets a balance between satisfying users and business goals."

That balance continues to be in a dichotic state to some extent.
As independent web developers and Marketing Companies we have a budget to maintain for clients as well as their best ROI interest in mind.
We will produce the cleanest code available up to the point of becoming obsessed about it. We will not revise Google's Map links to make them compliant, with either code or usability standards at this time, for example.
I don't believe the "Usability" standards are any more mature than coding standards nor where we are going with technology in general or combinatorial technologies such as AJAX or XAJAX, just to scratch the surface.
I like the more open minded presentation of what "Usability" should be, presented in the article though. The "gatekeepers" there have overextended a somewhat myopic view for a select few already - IMO.
