Default Are we in an update on google?

Has there or is there changes happening at google at the moment? Our website is up and down a lot on google. One minute it is there the next minute its gone.

I noticed this last week that it had slipt completely from the rankings for a term which we were number one "Body Jewelry Shopping" it then came back and was number one for a few days this week and then today its completely gone again. This is the same on some other search terms.

Ive also noticed that the number of pages returned keeps jumping around. The other day it was showing 51million pages for the term Body Jewelry Shopping and today 63 million.

Is there an update happening or is it just our site is slipping down the SERPS?

Google is constantly updating its SERPs. It's normal to see a site move around as they tweak their algorithm and other factors change.

I realise that they are constantly making small ongoing changes but quite drastic changes in the SERPS is what worries me.

In the google forum someone mentions that there have been some recent google changes. What are they?

stymiee is right, we're in a constant update on Google. Google did away with their "Google Dance" updates a while back and they're constantly shifting/updating/tweaking the search results, even more-so since the Big Daddy update.

I do think something significant is going on. I have seen variable results over the past day or two for some clients sites, especially internal pages losing pagerank totally...

Up to 74 million pages for "Body Jewelry Shopping" surely something major is going on. I realise that google are constantly tweaking and updating but it seems there are a lot of new pages now showing in the SERPS.

Its not just this search that Ive noticed it on.

Wholesale Fashion Necklaces - Was about 6million last week. Now showing 29 million

Same with Wholesale Fashion Bracelets, Earrings etc.....

Default Up And Down

One of my sites has been number one on google for its primary search term for a couple years and today it is gone, while other major search terms have caused site to flucuate in the top ten. I agree something is going on....also the number of returns seems to be much higher.....will just have to wait and see .....

Are sales way down? Remember the days of ranking reports on Google are going bye bye. This is the way it will be on Google now, like it or not.

Now if sales are down then yes your website has been effected by the latest Big Daddy changes. The thing that has been most consistent with websites which have been suffering from the update is the lack of new and relevant/quality links. If your website has not been getting any new links from high quality, relevant websites it appears to be hurting your ability to rank well now.

How does one go about getting quality links when all the pages of your websites have been removed from the Google index or are supplementals?

It seems Google has spoken and there's nothing to do about it but forget about Google.

What is classed as a reasonable amount of quality links to achieve on an average day?

We have been receiving daily new links from sites within the same industry with page rank.

The amount we receive may only be 1 or 2 a day. Do we need to go out and aim for say 50 a day?

The strange thing is we havent dropped for everything. We are still ranking for a lot of terms such as "body jewelry website".

So we havent dropped out of the SERPS completely its just on certain terms.

Another site that I have seen today which is a friends in the UK www.silver.uk.com was ranking 8th for the term "Silver Jewellery" now completely gone

Google dancing is going on. I have got good results for few of my gift section keywords. At the same time I have lost rankings for few of my main keywords too.

Well if you sell/offer the best products/services people will link to you because of it. If you have the best content online people will link to you because of it.

Getting links is not a game and it is not based on trickery. It is a easy concept, be best at what you do and people will link to you.

The sites we manage have been shifting on Google 1-2 times a month, but rarely have we seen the sites disappear completely from the rankings. Be careful with potential violations such as pop-ups on your page.

You did it to me and I accepted your link. Be careful so that I do not delete it. This is not the right place to make that request.

Go to the linkexchange part of the marketing forum.
